They say to do what you love, and you'll never work another day in your life. It was clear early on that there was an opportunity to teach people the art of smartphone photography as a business.

Paul Möhn, the owner, operator, and educator at fotopro, turned a passionate hobby of teaching others how to take better pictures with their smartphones into a thriving online business offering courses in 20 short months.

"I wanted to create another source of income besides my main job, and at some point, I realized that I had accumulated a lot of knowledge about (iPhone) photography that I would like to share with people. Since I really enjoy sharing knowledge, I looked for ways to put this into practice and eventually came up with the idea of online courses."

The question was how to bring this to life in a manageable way that would turn a passion into a career.

Paul knew early on that Shopify would be the eCommerce platform to use. Finding the solution to sell his digital products and build his community of 10,000+ members was a completely different challenge to figure out.

Paul sells photography online courses and knew early on that by leveraging product-specific categories to offer additional courses, he could sell more products by targeting interest groups.

When customers are engaged already, they become enthusiasts; converting them with additional courses to expand their knowledge is effortless.

By segmenting audiences based on their phone type, the logic engine in Tevello recommended more relevant courses to the users who already purchased a course. The sales naturally flowed, and the growth exceeded expectations.

Course/Community Customization

With a little CSS and categorizing the courses, Paul created segments with specific phone users, such as iPhones, Google, Samsung and other phones to sell product-specific courses.

Seamless Shopify integration

The courses and managing users are all happening in a single eCommerce platform without having disparate solutions to connect the two.

Members area with different visibility types

With the members' area offering the ability to display locked courses, Paul was able to sell more courses. He can lock new courses to users specific to their interests and phone type. He can segment offerings to individuals and corporations directly on the user's dashboard. This means that fotopro can have 20 courses in the store's catalog, but each user only sees the course they purchased along with a locked course that matches their interest.

The results: Selling additional courses while giving members a seamless UX experience

fotopro has sold over 12,000 courses with over €243,220 in revenue since May 2023. More than 50% of sales were from the first course, and just under 50% were sold as additional courses —going from an expensive and hard-to-manage solution to this was exactly the ticket to success.
